US Women Win Silver at World Team Tennis Championship
Susan Wright of Grand Junction, Colorado Part of Elite Team

Susan Wright of Grand Junction, CO - second from the left. |
The U.S. Bueno Cup team composed of Diane Fishburne (Charleston, SC), Susan Wright (Grand Junction, CO), Carolyn Nichols (Lodi, CA), and Marianne Robertson (Malibu, CA) finished second in the prestigious World Team Tennis Championships held April 27-May 3. The team lost in the finals by one match to a superb team from Great Britain.
In earlier round matches, the U.S. team marched through all competitors without dropping a set. The U.S. lost only one game out of three matches with Slovenia. Against Argentina Fishburne ran through her opponent in 28 minutes resulting in a new Argentine nickname, “Hurricane Diane”. The Hurricane and her crew blew through the French team 3-0 in the semi-finals and finally were stopped in the finals by a talented British team who knew how to handle the wind. Fishburne and Wright had only one loss each during the week of competition. Nichols and Robertson were undefeated in doubles play.
