USTA Serves Awards Three Intermountain Juniors College Scholarships


USTA SERVES AWARDS NATIONAL COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO 52 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS


USTA Intermountain Recipients:

Noah Archibald-Seifer of Boise, Idaho

Alex Walker of Emmett, Idaho

Stephanie Davis of Vernal, Utah


The USTA Intermountain recipients are of the 52 winners nationwide of a $6,000 College Educational Scholarship by USTA Serves – Foundation for Academics.  Character.  Excellence., the philanthropic and charitable entity of the United States Tennis Association.   The Foundation has granted 71 high school students a variety of college scholarships this spring, totaling $379,000.

The honorees were selected from applicants throughout the country on the basis of their commitment to academic success, their local community and the game of tennis.  An objective of USTA Serves is to encourage America’s youth to pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens.


Noah Archibald-Seifer of Boise, Idaho to Receive $6,000 Scholarship

Noah Archibald-Seifer, a senior at Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho, is an accomplished cellist who released a CD with Alrac Records, Archibald-Seifer makes beautiful music on and off the court.  The Rotary Scholar Service Student of the Year for 2008, he participates in USTA Sectional and State tournaments while maintaining a 3.9 GPA in a challenging curriculum.  A state finalist for the High School Heisman Award and a Special Olympics volunteer, he plans to study biology as a pre-med student at Washington University.


Stephanie Davis of Vernal, Utah, to Receive $6,000 Scholarship

Tennis has enabled Stephanie Davis, a senior at Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah, to overcome a shy nature and has provided her with increased self-confidence.  A member of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America, this church volunteer maintains a 3.9 GPA in college prep classes, including AP English.  With the hopes of one day serving as a translator, she is planning on majoring in Spanish at Snow College.

 

Alex Walker of Emmett, Idaho to Receive $6,000 Scholarship

Alex Walker, a senior at Emmett High School in Emmett, Idaho., has been selected as one of 52 winners nationwide of a $6,000 College Educational Scholarship by USTA Serves – Foundation for Academics. In an age when role models are few and far between, Walker enjoys being a role model for younger tennis teammates.  The Eagle Scout is co-ranked No. 1 in his class of 198 students with a perfect GPA of 4.0 in advanced and AP classes.  A Heart n’ Home Hospice volunteer who is also involved with church service projects, he is vice-president of his class.  The National Honor Society member plans to take a pre-dentistry curriculum at Idaho State University.



“We understand how vital financial assistance is for these deserving high school seniors as they pursue higher education,” said Karen Martin-Eliezer, Chief Executive, USTA Serves.  “Supporting them is a sound investment in America’s future.  It is our hope and firm belief that these young men and women will continue to positively impact the world throughout their life’s journey.”

USTA Serves
Established in 1994, USTA Serves supports, monitors and promotes programs that enhance the lives of disadvantaged children through the integration of tennis and education.  USTA Serves actively supports individual students from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds through college scholarships and player incentive awards and encourages children to pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens.  Additionally, the Foundation supports community tennis programs across the country that provide positive role models, academic assistance, life skills, and tennis instruction to help prevent violence, substance abuse and school dropouts.  USTA Serves is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that builds on the USTA’s social conscience of addressing important health issues, diversity issues, and general well-being in the United States using tennis as the catalyst and change agent.
